île d´Oléron, brand of ‘les Vignerons d´Oléron’, co-operative in Saint-Pierre-d´Oléron (bois ordinaires)

In the beginning of the 19th century wine-growing is the most important source of income on the island. In 1925 the first co-operative starts and after the Worls War there are five co-operatives with altogether 6000 hectares of vineyard. The economic crisis that followed led to the fusion of the five co-operatives into one: ‘La Cave des Vignerons d’Oléron’. Nowadays around fifty wine-growers participate with 320 hectares of wine.
