Ivaldi is not a very well-known brand, but it florished in the first half of the 20th century. It was founded by César Ivaldi in 1910 in Jarnac. It is not unlikely that he already had a distillery before that together with Gourdon: Gourdon & Ivaldi, also in Jarnac.
Around 1940, Marcel Ivaldi bought Chateau des Chabannes, a picturesque building on the edge of the Charente river, which served as a shelter for children during the early years of WW2.
After César Ivaldi, Marcel Ivaldi and after him Michel Ivaldi ran the company.
During the years of prosperity, they came to own the following brands, among others:
Duphot & Sardou (1930)
Marcel Pilain & Co. (1942)
Brugmans (1952)
André Paul (1954)
E. Plisson & Co. (1960)
In the 1970s they became the property of Richard Frères, who were sold to Compangie de Guyenne at the end of the 1970s.
