Favraud was founded in 1858 by Jean Favraud. There is a document from 1886 stating that he had his establishment in Vinerville, near Beauvais-sur-Matha. In that same year he bought the beautiful Chateau de Souillac in Jarnac. They have been suppliers to the court of His Majesty the King of Sweden and won international awards in London, Milan and Paris in the early 20th century.

They often promoted their cognacs with the slogan ‘Le marque du chateau’.

The brand was bought by Philippe de Castaigne in 1985, then owned by Philip Vallantin Dulac. Around 2000 it was produced by Distilleries de Matha and around 2012 Les Vignobles Reunis (Ladoga Group) took controle of the brand.
They have been producing bottles of Favraud until the 2020s.

Favraud has made wonderful cognacs in the past.

Favraud was in possession of the following brand names:

J. Mérignac & Co.
M. Michaud & Co.
Montblanc & Co.
Montrac
Mellort
C. Hommel
Chevalier
Distilleries Vinicoles de Souillac
B. Aicrag Fils
Falland & Co.
Fleurac & Co.

  1. hello,
i have a very old bottle of your cognac. Cognac Favraud La Marque du Chateau Vieille Reserve.
unfortunately I cannot upload the photo.
please send me your email address so I can sent a photo.
curious to hear the value of this bottle
    kind regards,
    Erik van Beek

    • Thanks for the photo. It looks pretty much the same as the two Extra Reserves I have on the page above with the red cord, but your bottle is a Vieille Réserve. Legally both are compte 6, so they have aged over 6 years. Of course they have aged much longer. There are no records, but it is safe to presume the Extra Réserve has aged over 40 years, maybe even 50. And the Vieille Réserve probably 30 years.
This bottle must be from the 1970s or maybe just 1980, destined for the Dutch market.
It is difficult to tell what it’s worth is, but with some luck you could get €300 on an auction, provided the level in good. On a bad they they won’t bid as much…

I uploaded the photo to the page.
      Good luck selling,
      Ton

  2. Hello,
I have a bottle of the family reserve 1804 and am curious as to the value. It resembles the picture you have on this website. I do have a leather satchel but no paperwork to authenticate the bottle.
If required I can send photographs and details such as weight and measure. Thank you in advance.

    • I have seen an asking price of £35,998.50. You probably have seen that too.
But that would be much higher than I would estimate for a genuine bottle. My estimation would be half of that at most, if and only if it would be a genuine bottle.
And I have serious doubts regarding the bottle on the webpage. But I would be interested in seeing some photo’s.
